Vulgrin III. (Angoulême)
Vulgrin III. (also Wulfgrin ; † 1181 ) was a Count of Angoulême from the House of Taillefer . He was the eldest son of Count Wilhelm VI. and Margaret, a daughter of Vice Count Raimund I of Turenne .
Vulgrin supported his father in the uprising against Duke Richard the Lionheart in 1176 and led a Brabanzone army plundering through the Poitou . In a counteroffensive Richard was placed between Saint-Maigrin and Bouteville at the end of May 1176 and defeated in a field battle, whereupon the rebellious lords of Aquitaine had to submit to the duke.
He died after only a short time as Count of Angoulême. From his marriage to Elisabeth, a daughter of Hugo II of Amboise ( House Amboise ), he had an underage daughter Mathilde († after 1233). Richard the Lionheart declared himself to be their guardian , although Vulgrin's brothers, Wilhelm VII and Aymar , denied their inheritance. She married Hugo IX around 1200/1201 . from Lusignan .
