The Amboise house is the family of the Lords (Sires) of Amboise from the 11th to the 15th centuries.

history

The family acquired the Amboise estate as a dowry from the Hersende de Buzançais , who married Lisois de Bazougers , Seneschal of Count Fulko Nerra of Anjou . Their son Sulpice d'Amboise transferred his feudal oath in 1050 from Anjou to the Count of Blois . In the 12th century, the city was the scene of a brilliant court under Hugues I d'Amboise († 1128), Sulpice's son.

The Amboise reign was confiscated and incorporated into the crown in 1434 because Louis d'Amboise was involved in a conspiracy against Georges de La Trémoille , one of the king's favorites. A few years earlier, the Amboise had inherited the vice-county of Thouars , which went to the La Trémoille house through Louis' daughters .

The younger line in Chaumont-sur-Loire lasted longer , even if it also lost its property after Pierre d'Amboise's participation in the Ligue du Bien public . This branch of the family died out in its marital line in 1525 and is particularly noticeable for the large number of ecclesiastical dignitaries who descended from it, including Cardinal Georges d'Amboise , the minister of King Louis XII.
