Benon county

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The county of Benon (also Benaon ) around the place Benon near La Rochelle originally belonged to the Duchy of Aquitaine and came with this to the crown. In 1307 Benon was spun off as an independent fief . In 1378 Pernelle, Vice Countess von Thouars and Countess von Dreux exchanged two thirds of their county for the Châtellenien Benon and Fontenay-l'Abbatu (today Frontenay-Rohan-Rohan ); In this context, Benon was raised to the rank of county.

Through Pernelle's daughter Isabeau de Thouars, Benon came to the House of Amboise , whose heir in turn was the House of La Trémoille . The title of Count of Benon was used until the beginning of the 18th century, but then it was lost compared to the family's title of duke.
