Louis d'Amboise (* 1392 in the Castle of Rochecorbon ; † 1469 in the Castle of Thouars ) was Lord of Amboise and Vice-Count of Thouars . He was the son of Ingelger II. D'Amboise and Jeanne de Craon .

He was Count of Benon , Vice-Count of Thouars, Lord of Talmont , Mauléon , Marans , Amboise , Montrichard , Rochecorbon, Berrie , Leugny , Château-Gontier , Civray , the Île de Ré etc.

Louis d'Amboise took part in the Hundred Years War , and since January 24, 1429 stood before Orléans on the side of Joan of Arc . A little later he agreed with Lezay and Vivonne to kidnap Georges de La Trémoille , Charles VII's favorite, and to bring the king to Amboise, but was arrested before execution. The parliament , which was still in Poitiers , sentenced all three to death on May 8, 1431. Lezay and Vivonne were executed, but Louis was pardoned by the king. He commuted the death penalty to imprisonment and confiscated his property.

Louis' cousin Pierre d'Amboise , lord of Chaumont-sur-Loire , accompanied the lords of Bueil and Coëtivy and fourteen other important nobles of the kingdom, broke into Chinon Castle , where Charles VII and La Trémoille were staying La Trémoille, took him to the Château Montrésor , and only let him go in exchange for a ransom and a promise that Louis d'Amboise would be released, which also happened in 1434.

Louis got most of his possessions back, with the exception of Amboise, Château-Gontier and Civray, which the king kept for himself. Twelve years after his release, he married his youngest daughter to his opponent's son, who then inherited his estates.

Louis d'Amboise married Louise-Marie de Rieux († January 24, 1465 in captivity), daughter of Jean III. de Rieux , Marshal of France , and Béatrice de Montauban . In his second marriage, he married on January 24, 1466 Colette de Chambes († December 14, 1471), daughter of Jean de Chambes, Lord of Montsoreau and Jeanne Chabot. He had three daughters from his first wife:

Louis d'Amboise was buried in the Saint-Laon church in Thouars.
