Louis I. d'Amboise

Louis I. d'Amboise (* before 1462; † July 1, 1503 in Lyon ) was Bishop of Albi . He was a son of Pierre d'Amboise and the older brother of Cardinal Georges d'Amboise .

Louis d'Amboise was a confidante of the French King Louis XI. who commissioned him to monitor the activities of Charles of France in the Guyenne . In 1473 he was appointed Abbot of Jumièges and his ambassador to Rome by the king .

From 1462 to 1464 he was coadjutor of Albi, before 1466 he was appointed Bishop of Lombez . In 1474 he became Bishop of Albi (the name Louis I refers to this office, since his nephew Louis II d'Amboise was his direct successor here), a task which he never neglected despite his many other activities. 1474–1478 he was lieutenant general of the king in Languedoc , Roussillon and Cerdagne , then the king's diplomat who was often used. After a short period of disgrace, he also took on these tasks for Charles VIII and his regents Anne de Beaujeu and Pierre de Beaujeu . After the death of Charles VIII (1498) he was also the confidante of the new King Louis XII. .

Louis I. d'Amboise was buried in Albi Cathedral.
