Montrichard (pronounced [mɔtʁiʃaʁ] ) is a village and a former French commune with 3,156 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Loir-et-Cher in the region Center-Val de Loire . It belonged to the Arrondissement of Blois and the Canton of Montrichard .
With effect from January 1, 2016, the previously independent municipalities of Montrichard and Bourré were merged to form a Commune nouvelle with the name Montrichard Val de Cher and have the status of a Commune déléguée in the new municipality . The administrative headquarters are in Montrichard.

history
Montrichard is a medieval city and a former Angevin fortress . Its rectangular donjon is the remains of a castle from the 11th / 12th centuries. Century, originally from Count Fulko Nerra . The stone donjon was built by one of his successors as lord of Montrichard, Hugues I d'Amboise . The wine-growing town used to have an important strategic importance, because two important trade routes crossed here, namely the one from Bourges to Tours and the one from Paris to Spain .
