Sophie of Istria

Sophie of Istria († September 6, 1132 ) from the House of Weimar-Orlamünde was Countess von Andechs .

Life

Sophie was the daughter of Margrave Poppo II of Istria - Carniola from the House of Weimar-Orlamünde († 1095/1103/1107) and Richgardis / Richardis von Spanheim († 1112/1130). Her paternal grandparents were Ulrich I of Weimar-Orlamünde († 1070), Margrave of Istria, and the Arpadin Sophia of Hungary († 1095); the maternal grandparents were Engelbert I von Spanheim († 1096), Margrave of Istria, and Hedwig of Saxony (or Hedwig of Eppenstein?).

In her marriage to Count Berthold II von Andechs, she brought goods southeast of the Alps as dowry. After the death of her brother, Margrave Poppo III. of Istria, after 1141 Berthold was able to secure the majority of the inheritance for his house in Carniola , Carinthia and Lower Styria .

Sophie died in 1132 and is buried in the Dießen monastery .
