François II de La Tour

François II. De La Tour (* July 5, 1497 Château de Limeuil in Périgord ; † July 12, 1532 Château de Villocher near Châteaubriant ) was a French nobleman, diplomat and military man who was particularly involved in the first two Italian wars between Francis I. and Charles V was active.

Life

François II. De La Tour is the son of Antoine de La Tour the Elder, Vicomte de Turenne († 1527), and Antoinette de Pons († before 1511). He grew up as an enfant d'honneur du roy . In 1510 he was declared of legal age by his father and made Vicomte de Turenne. He also became Seigneur et Baron de Montgascon , d ' Olliergues , Croc, Bouzols, Fay et Servissac

He was Chevalier de l'Ordre du Roi (i.e. in the Ordre de Saint-Michel ), French councilor and chamberlain, Capitaine de 100 gentilshommes de sa maison (i.e. of the royal household).

In 1521 he took part in the French campaign in Flanders , in 1522 and 1523 in the defense against the Austrian attacks in Picardy . In 1524 he was appointed Lieutenant-General of the Italian Army under the Duke of Albany and Capitaine de 50 hommes d'armes des ordonnances .

In 1526 he was together with Gabriel de Gramont, Bishop of Tarbes , extraordinary ambassador to England with the task of negotiating the marriage of the king to Mary of England , daughter of Henry VIII , as well as a military alliance against the emperor.

In 1528 he was in Florence during the war for the Kingdom of Naples , then became French governor of Genoa and finally negotiated the peace between the Pope and Venice in the same year .

On March 10, 1529 François II. De La Tour he was appointed governor and lieutenant general de l'Île-de-France .

Also in 1529 François II. De La Tour was sent to Spain to negotiate with the aim of bringing back the French princes who had been held hostage there due to the defeat of Pavia and the imprisonment of Francis I, in order to obtain the ransom payment for the French Guarantee king; about the marriage between Francis I and Eleanor of Castile was ratified again, which he married on March 20, 1530 in the name of the king.

François II. De La Tour died on this trip on July 12th near Châteaubriant. According to his will, he was buried in the Franciscan church of Brives.
