Wilhelm Wagner (politician, 1936)

Wilhelm Wagner (born February 2, 1936 in Karlsbrunn ) is a leading figure in the community of the Warndt region in Saarland . For decades and to this day, as the founder and chairman of various associations and organizations, he has contributed to the development of his home town and given impetus for structural change in the Warndt .

On June 11, 2007, he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit for his “outstanding achievements at social, sporting and political level” .

Wilhelm Wagner was born the fourth of seven children to Wilhelm Friedrich Wagner and Martha Wagner (née Bachelier). He has been married to Liesel Wagner (née Stähli, born November 26, 1940 in Ludweiler ) since 1963 . The couple has two children, Ulrike Lang (born Wagner, born March 19, 1964) and Eric (born March 25, 1968).

Professional background

After returning from two evacuations during the Second World War and finishing elementary school, he ran his parents' farm as an independent farmer with his family until 1959. In 1961 he successfully completed his studies at the higher agricultural school in Bad Kreuznach as a graduate agricultural engineer.

His experience, which he was able to gain as managing director of the Saar Farmers Association from 1962 to 1973, was useful in his further career from 1973 to his retirement in 1996 as an agricultural engineer at the highest nature conservation authority in the Saarland Ministry for the Environment. From 1982 to 1988 he was also chairman of the staff council in the Ministry of the Environment.

Karlsbrunn sports club

In 1965 Wilhelm Wagner founded the sports club Karlsbrunn eV together with his brother Albrecht and other friends , which he headed as chairman for 21 years between 1966 and 1991 and of which he is honorary chairman today. During this time, the SVK's first team rose from the C-Class to the South-West regional league , in which it also plays today.

In 1977 he was also co-founder of the sponsoring association of the Karlsbrunn sports club. The sponsoring association is the organizer of the annual Karlsbrunn wild boar festival, which attracts thousands of visitors from the region.

The landscape care association was founded to restore and maintain the original character of Karlsbrunn. On an area of ​​approx. 33 hectares, the company maintains approx. 200 sheep and goats from cultivated breeds that are not of commercial interest. Natural cattle Warndt keeps around 50 Glan cattle on a farm of almost 50 hectares . Both companies are certified as organic.

Wilhelm Wagner also plays a leading role in marketing the Warndt as a tourist destination and as a region with a future, u. a. Enjoy with campaigns such as Warndt products , at the Warndt Weekend or at the workshops to master the opportunities and risks of regional structural change.

On October 1, 2007, the Local Action Group (LAG) Warndt eV was founded in Ludweiler and Wilhelm Wagner was unanimously appointed as chairman. The LAG Warndt eV has set itself the goal of sustainably strengthening the Warndt region within the framework of the European funding focus LEADER within the European Fund for Rural Development ( EAFRD ), economically, ecologically and socially and thus making it fit for the future. For this purpose, the regional development concept "Rendez-Vous Warndt" was submitted to the responsible ministry on November 23, 2007, the content of which was drawn up by the engineering office ARGUSconcept from Saarbrücken. Due to this concept, the Warndt achieved an excellent 2nd place in the LEADER competition and can thus use 1.7 million euros in funding until 2010 for regional development.
