Wilhelm Wolfslast

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wilhelm Wolfslast (born December 1, 1904 in Dortmund , † July 7, 1960 in Dortmund-Brackel ) was a German naval writer and book author.

Life

Wilhelm Wolfslast and his wife Martha (Wwe) are listed in the Dortmund address books from 1940 and 1960. In 1940 the Wolfslast couple lived in the east of Dortmund city center. Wilhelm Wolfslast listed "writer" as the job title. In 1960 both were registered in Dortmund-Wambel . After Wilhelm Wolfslast there was now the abbreviation "Dolm" instead of "Writer".

In January 1939 Wilhelm Wolfslast's book Der Seekrieg 1914–1918 was reviewed in the magazine Die Kriegsmarine by Fritz-Otto Busch (1890–1971). Busch, himself a well-known book author and chief editor of the Kriegsmarine magazine, wrote in the section Die Bücherkiste :

“The book is - you can say that with a clear conscience - the best comprehensive work in one volume that has ever appeared on the naval war. In spite of the fact that one has written enough books on the same subject, one has to admit it without envy. The author - his name is definitely not Wolfslast and is most likely an expert by great grace! - has given something here that anyone who, out of interest or profession, researches the connections and events of naval warfare, simply has to own. Yes, must! ... "

Although Fritz-Otto Busch as author and editor and Wilhelm Wolfslast as author even worked together in the 1950s for Arthur Moewig Verlag in Munich , this misjudgment by Busch has never been corrected. So it happened that over a period of years Fritz-Otto Busch was mistakenly assigned the pseudonym Wilhelm Wolfslast.

In the Westphalian Manuscript Archive in Dortmund there is a copy of the book Die Germanische Völkerwanderung , published in 1941, with a supplement signed by Wilhelm Wolfslast.

Many of Wilhelm Wolfslast's publications were illustrated in the 1940s and 1950s by the well-known marine painter Walter Zeeden (1891–1961).

So far nothing is known about the further life and work of Wilhelm Wolfslast.
