Wilhelmina Geertruida van Idsinga (born November 10, 1788 in Leeuwarden ; † May 9, 1819 ibid.) Was a Dutch draftsman and painter.

life and work

Wilhelmina van Idsinga was born as the only child of Tjebbina Heimans and Johan van Idsinga, a secretary of the Staten van Friesland , in a wealthy environment. Her mother died when she was six years old, and she remained without siblings even after her father remarried. She received artistic training at an early age from the painters CJ Baar van Slangenburgh and Willem Bartel van der Kooi .

Wilhelmina van Idsinga remained unmarried and between 1814 and 1818 exhibited her work - drawings and pastel paintings - in The Hague and Amsterdam . There were contemporary reports about her promising talent as well as lexical ones in the art lexicon Geschiedenis der Vaderlandsche Schilderkunst, which appeared decades later - it states that she made “free and powerful drawings from paintings” and portraits “from life”.

Only a few years later, at the age of 30, Wilhelmina van Idsinga died of a breast disease. Her parents bequeathed the self-portrait she painted to an orphanage in Leeuwarden, where it, like another portrait, is to this day.
