Wilkin & Sons

Wilkin & Sons Limited is a manufacturer of jams , fruit and vegetables and related products from Tiptree in the county of Essex in England . According to the company, a large part of the fruit and vegetable requirement is grown in Essex itself.

The best-known product is a jam marketed under the name Little Scarlet , the name of which is derived from the scarlet strawberry used , an originally American wild form of the strawberry . Years that are perceived as particularly good are marked with the term Vintage Year and particularly advertised. This variety , which is difficult to cultivate , is said to give the jam an exceptionally good taste.

The company is headed by Peter J. Wilkin, a direct descendant of Arthur Charles Wilkin, one of the founders. In 2008 the company had a turnover of about 22.5 million pounds . The gross profit amounted to about 4.25 million pounds. On average, 240 people were employed over the year.
