Willi Ostermann (born November 28, 1920 in Warstein ; † January 28, 2013 ) was a German football player and coach .

Career

Beginnings in the lower leagues (until 1950)

Ostermann grew up in the Westphalian town of Warstein and joined the youth of the local soccer club TuS Warstein in 1933 at the age of 13 . He then remained faithful to this into adulthood. From 1941 he could no longer pursue football because he was drafted into the Wehrmacht and had to take part in the campaign against the Soviet Union. On March 13, 1942, he was seriously injured near Moscow and went through months of healing. In May 1945 he was first captured by the Americans and a little later by British captivity in Rimini before he was able to return to Warstein in October of the same year.

Shortly after his return, he resumed playing football at his former club, but in 1946 he moved to Bonn to study law . As a result, he soon joined the Bonn FV . In the season 1949/50 he played with the first team in the newly founded 2nd League West . The latter formed the substructure of the Oberliga West , which was the top division in the then regionally organized league system. At the end of this season, however, Bonn had to accept relegation.

Senior league years with Meiderich (1950–1953)

Through Hans Krämer , whom he knew from his studies, he came into contact with his club Meidericher SV and was obliged by this for the new 1950/51 season. The then second division MSV paid a relatively high transfer fee of 3,000 DM for the 29-year-old . At Meiderich, the left-back received a monthly base salary of 180 DM and was not a regular player at first, but still played relatively often and was thus involved in the league promotion in 1951. Then he made his debut in the top division when he was on August 19, 1951 in a 1-1 draw against Prussia Dellbrück on the field. In the further course of the season he occupied a permanent place in the first team and was able to establish himself immediately in the league with the Meidericher. However, he lost his post in 1952/53 and was only called up sporadically. In the summer of 1953, his time in Meiderich ended after 32 top division games without scoring and 11 second division games with two goals.

Further work as a trainer (after 1953)

After his engagement in Meiderich, he remained loyal to football by opting to work as a coach and in 1957 acquired the A license under the well-known coaches Dettmar Cramer and Hennes Weisweiler . By 1962 he was back at Bonner FV, where he worked in a double role as a player- coach. He then trained various teams from the Bonn area in the period up to 1980. After retiring from football, he returned to his home town of Warstein in 1983. He died in 2013 at the age of 92.
