The William Glacier is a glacier on Anvers Island in the Palmer Archipelago west of the Antarctic Peninsula . It flows from the highlands in the center of the island in a southerly direction to the head end of Börgen Bay .

Participants in the Belgica expedition (1897-1899) of the Belgian polar explorer Adrien de Gerlache de Gomery discovered it and named it simply as Grand Glacier (French for large glacier ). The current name goes back to scientists from the British Discovery Investigations , who surveyed the glacier in 1927. However, the namesake is not known. In Argentina the glacier has been called Glaciar Tolosa since 1953 . It is named after a marine who died in March 1814 in the Battle of Martín García as part of the Argentine War of Independence (1810-1818).
