William Babington

William Babington (born May 21, 1756 in Portglenone, near Coleraine , Ireland, † April 29, 1833 ) was a British medic and mineralogist. The mineral babingtonite is named after him.

Live and act

William Babington came from the English noble Babington family  . He was a medic at Guy's Hospital from 1795 to 1811 . From 1822 to 1824 he was President of the Geological Society of London . Babington was the curator of the mineral collection of John Stuart, 3rd Earl of Bute . After his death in 1792 he bought the collection.

His son was the medic Benjamin Guy Babington (1794-1866).
