William Bonin

William George Bonin aka "The Freeway Killer" (born January 8, 1947 , † February 23, 1996 in San Quentin State Prison , California ) was an American serial killer .

Bonin was a truck driver and found his male victims on the freeway . Most of them were strangled or stabbed . All of the victims had previously been raped by him. He had help from accomplices in his deeds.

Bonin was sentenced to death on January 5, 1982 for the rape and murder of ten young men and received the death penalty again after admitting four other murders . He showed no remorse . Overall, Bonin is suspected of having committed at least 21 and up to 36 murders. Bonin was executed on February 23, 1996 in San Quentin Prison, California. He was the first in California to be sentenced to death by lethal injection .
