William Cowper Smith

William Cowper Smith ( 1843 - March 5, 1911 ) was a New Zealand Liberal Party politician .

In the House of Representatives of New Zealand he represented the Waipawa constituency from 1881 to 1887, the Woodville constituency from 1887 to 1890 and Waipawa again from 1990 to 1893.

On December 13, 1895, he was appointed to the Legislative Council . At the end of the seven-year mandate, he was reappointed on December 13, 1902 and December 13, 1909. He sat on the Legislative Council until his death. He chaired the committees of the Legislative Council from 1902 to 1903, 1906 and 1907 to 1908. In 1901 he was supported by the Liberal government as a candidate for chairman of the committees, but WDH Baillie was elected to his final mandate.
