William Cumming

William Cumming (* 1724 in Annapolis , Province of Maryland , † 1797 ) was an American politician . In 1785 he was a delegate for North Carolina in the Continental Congress .

Career

After graduating from law school and admitted to the bar, William Cumming began practicing the profession in Maryland. He later moved his residence and practice to Edenton , North Carolina. In the 1770s he joined the revolutionary movement. In 1776 he was a member of the North Carolina Provincial Congress . He served in the North Carolina House of Representatives in 1781, 1783, 1784, and 1788 . He also represented his homeland in the Continental Congress in 1785. In 1790 he was nominated for a judge's post. It is not known whether he actually took office. William Cumming died in 1797, the exact date and place of death are unknown.
