William Dean Singleton
William Dean Singleton (born August 1, 1951 in Graham , Texas ) is the founder, managing director and vice chairman of the MediaNews Group, the fourth largest newspaper publisher in the United States . Singleton is also the chairman of the Newspaper Association of America (NAA), the association of newspaper publishers in the United States.
Life
Singleton began working as a journalist for a regional newspaper at the age of 15 . After leaving college, he started his own weekly newspaper . He started working for the Texas financial investor Joe Albritton . At the age of 27 he became president of its newspaper division, Albritton Communications . In 1977 Singleton was tasked with merging several daily newspaper groups for Albritton Communications. In the same year he met Richard B. Scudder , with whom he worked from 1983. From this collaboration, the MediaNews group developed in 1985 .
