William Douglas, 1st Duke of Queensberry

William Douglas, 1st Duke of Queensberry ( 1637 - March 28, 1695 ) was a Scottish nobleman .

William was a son of James Douglas, 2nd Earl of Queensberry and his wife Margaret Stewart of Traquair.

Douglas was Scottish Privy Counselor , Lord Justice General from 1680 to 1682 and then Lord High Treasurer of Scotland until 1686 . He opposed the church policy of King James II and held the office of Lord President of the Privy Council from 1686 to 1689.

In 1657 he married Isabel, daughter of William Douglas, 1st Marquess of Douglas with whom he had the following children:
