William Douw Lighthall

William Douw Lighthall ( WD Lighthall ; born December 27, 1857 in Hamilton / Ontario , † August 3, 1954 in Montreal ) was a Canadian poet and writer.

Lighthall studied at McGill University and worked until 1944 on various posts in the government service in Quebec. He became known as the editor of the anthology of poetry Songs of the Great Dominion: Voices from the Forests and Waters, The Settlements and Cities of Canada , which included poems by Wilfred Campbell , Bliss Carman , Archibald Lampman and Charles GD Roberts . Since 1902 he was a member of the Royal Society of Canada , 1918-19 he was its president.
