William Ewing Hester
William Ewing Hester (born May 12, 1912 in Hazlehurst , Mississippi , † February 8, 1993 in Jackson , Mississippi ) was an American and President of the United States Tennis Association (USTA).
biography
William "Slew" Hester was born in the US state of Mississippi and played tennis and American football himself . During the Second World War he served in the US Army and was awarded the Bronze Star . He was 1st Vice President of the USTA under Presidents Alastair Martin and Stan Malless from 1974 to 1976. He then took up the presidency himself (1977/78). In 1981 he was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame for his services . Hester died in Jackson , Mississippi in 1993 .
