William Guarnere

William J. Guarnere (born April 28, 1923 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , † March 8, 2014 ibid) was an American World War II veteran who last held the rank of non-commissioned officer in the US Army. During World War II he served in the Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Paratrooper Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. He was portrayed by Frank John Hughes in the Band of Brothers series , which portrays the Easy Company of the Regiment's 2nd Battalion during World War II .

Guarnere was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After graduating from South Philadelphia High School in 1942, he volunteered to join the paratroopers.

Second World War

He began paratrooper training at Camp Toccoa on August 31, 1942 after being assigned to the Easy Company. The war began for him with the invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944. Later that morning he was involved in the destruction of a gun, for which he later received the Silver Star .

After the war

After the end of the war he returned to the United States, he accepted a variety of job offers before he married his girlfriend Frances Peca. Guarnere died of an aneurysm on March 8, 2014, at Jefferson University Hospital. He was 90 years old.
