William Hopton

Sir William Hopton of Blythburgh and Swillington, († February 7, 1484 ), was an English knight .

Life

Sir William was a son of Sir John Hopton and Margaret Saville

He began his career in January 1466 as Commissioner of Peace in West Riding of Yorkshire , a position Sir William held until November 1470. William Hopton was appointed Sheriff of Norfolk and Suffolk in 1466 and served several times as Commissioner of Peace in West Riding of Yorkshire and Suffolk in the 1470s, and was again Sheriff of Norfolk and Suffolk in 1478 . William Hopton was also a feudal man and supporter of Richard, Duke of Gloucester .

When Richard was crowned King in July 1483 William Hopton received the day before the crowning accolade , was on 14 July 1483 to the Treasurer of the Kings Household appointed and the Privy Council appointed the king. In September 1483 Sir Willam was commissioned to secure the sea area off Norfolk and Suffolk .

Sir William died on February 7, 1484.

Marriage and offspring

Sir William was married to Margaret, a daughter of Roger Wentworth.

The couple had four children:
