William Howard Durham
William Durham (* 1873 in Kentucky ; † 1912 ) was an American Pentecostal pastor , theologian and the editor of a magazine.
Life
Durham grew up in a Baptist home in Kentucky. During a visit to Minnesota in 1898, he was introduced to the thoughts and ideas of Pentecostalism and eventually joined a Pentecostal ward. He became the pastor of the North Avenue Mission in Chicago . Intrigued by reports of the Azusa Street Revival , Durham went to Los Angeles in 1907 and was baptized with the Holy Spirit .
Durham returned to Chicago and became the editor of the Pentecostal Testimony , a monthly magazine for promoting Pentecostal doctrines. The North Avenue Mission ward grew under his leadership, with ten daughter wards.
theology
Durham held a theology that differed from the Pentecostal doctrine of Azusa. So he developed the doctrine of the Finished Work of Calvary . According to this, all people experience redemption and sanctification, conditioned by the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ on Golgotha .
