William Lewis (football coach)

William Lewis was an English football referee , coach and official.

Lewis was involved in many different roles in English club football in the early 20th century. At first he was a referee; between August 1900 and May 1903 he was manager of Brentford FC . When Chelsea FC was founded, he became its first general secretary; his relationships helped the club's admission to the Football League . At the end of 1906 he briefly took over the post of coach at Chelsea; In this role he led the team in 1907 to promotion to the First Division .
