The company was founded in 1897 by the brothers Gottlob and Emil Jäcklein. They set up their brewery on the Pörlitzer Höhe in the north of Ilmenau, directly on the Erfurt – Ilmenau railway line . In addition to the brewery building, Jäcklein also owned two adjacent brewery ponds.

The brewery produced among other light lagers , Simply Beer , malt beer , Export beer and lager .

In 1972 the brewery was nationalized in the GDR. Between 1972 and 1990 she belonged to the VEB Beverage Combine Rennsteig Meiningen and produced beer and non-alcoholic beverages. Beer production was stopped in 1980 due to a faulty brewing pan that could not be purchased in the GDR. Until 1990, beer was bottled for the Rennsteig beverage combine, Schmiedefeld division .

On June 1, 1990, the brewery was re-privatized from the Treuhand to the Konrad Jäcklein family and produced non-alcoholic beverages until June 1991. After they were stopped, the Jäcklein brewery could only survive through a beverage wholesaler.

For the company's hundredth anniversary in 1997, the beer brand “Jäcklein Pils” (bottle and barrel) was reissued according to the original recipe. The range has been expanded to include "Jäcklein Anniversary Beer", "Jäcklein Premium" and "Jäcklein dark lager" in the swing top bottle. Since then, they have been produced in the Saalfeld brewery and sold in the Ilmenau area.

The brewery building now houses the wholesale trade, a beverage market, rental apartments and a law firm.
