The Meininger Privatbrauerei GmbH & Co. KG was an independent, medium-sized brewery in the southern Thuringia county town Meiningen . With 26 employees, 60,000 hectoliters of beer and mixed beer drinks in 12 types were brewed annually until 2011. The beer was sold under the protected product name "Meininger".
The brewery previously operated under the names Völlersche Brauerei (1860–1908), Vereinigte Brauerei AG Meiningen (1908–1946), VEB Vereinigte Brauereien Meiningen (1946–1971), Rennsteig-Meiningen Beverage Combine (1971–1990), Meiningen Brewery (1990– 1992), Brauhaus Meiningen (1992–1995) and Meininger Privatbrauerei Müller GmbH + Co.KG (1995–1999).
history
From 1841 to 1858, master brewer Christian Gieße brewed beer for an inn in Bielstein. In 1858, Gottfried Völler acquired the property and started the Völlersche brewery in 1860 . The company operated under this name until 1908. In 1867 Völler received the title of "Ducal Court Supplier" and from 1891 the beer of the brewery now run by August Völler could be marketed under the name Meininger Hofbräu with the approval of Duke Georg II . In 1907, 60 employees brewed 48,000 hectoliters of beer in six beer specialties. Around 1900 the Völlersche brewery was one of four breweries in the then royal seat.
In 1908 the brewery merged with the Meininger Brauerei Kreuzberg AG and from then on was called Vereinigte Brauerei AG Meiningen . The beer production increased to 65,000 hectoliters. With the Haack AG brewery , another Meininger brewery was added in 1946 to the company now called VEB Vereinigte Brauereien Meiningen . In addition to beer production, the brewers also began producing spirits and non-alcoholic beverages from 1964 through the integration of the Meininger liqueur factory . The brewery was now called VEB Vereinigte Brauereien und Likörfabriken Meiningen . In 1971 the brewery became the headquarters of the newly formed Rennsteig-Meiningen beverage combine . By the end of the 1980s, the production of beer was increased to 180,000 hectoliters, spirits to 30,000 hectoliters and non-alcoholic beverages to 80,000 hectoliters.
With the political turnaround , the combine dissolved and the production of the now Meiningen brewery was reduced to the absolute low of 17,000 hectoliters. The Schickedanz group of companies in Fürth bought the brewery in 1992 and subdivided it as Brauhaus Meiningen GmbH from Patrizierbräu in Nuremberg . Beer production could then be doubled. In 1995 Roland Müller from Koblenz took over the brewery and together with the breweries Thuringia-Brauerei Mühlhausen , Riebeck-Brauerei Gera and Wartburg-Brauerei Eisenach , Meininger Privatbrauerei Müller GmbH + Co.KG brewed 125,000 hectoliters of beer and mixed beverages with 40 employees.
After a total execution, the Lower Franconian brewer Klaus Weidringer from Roth an der Saale took over the Meininger brewery and led it back on the road to success as Meininger Privatbrauerei GmbH , but was unable to develop the company into a stable company in the long term.
After filing for bankruptcy in March 2011 and the unsuccessful search for new investors, the insolvency administrator announced the liquidation and liquidation of the company by February 29, 2012; the brewery must be vacated by July 31, 2012. The city of Meiningen then secured the rights to the Meininger beer brand , which was initially further brewed as draft beer by the Apolda association brewery and sold in the Meininger region by a Meiningen beverage company. The festival beer for the Meininger Hütesfest is brewed in the Rhön brewery in Kaltennordheim .
