Club brewery Apolda

The Vereinsbrauerei Apolda GmbH is an independent, medium-sized beer brewery . It was founded in Apolda in 1887 . In 2018 it produced around 94,000 hectoliters of beer with its 50 employees.

history

The tradition of brewing beer in Apolda is documented as early as 1440. The commercial brewing rights of the castle estate and the city of Apolda mentioned in a document were given to certain groups of citizens at that time. In 1710 the inner-city residents united to form a “society”, which later the “suburbanites” also did. In 1826 the assessor Börner succeeded in uniting these two brewing communes . From 1830 the Apolda brewery benefited from the flourishing of the textile industry and the expansion of the railway. From 1844 onwards, the brewing municipality began to create legal ownership as an independent brewery through purchase contracts. In 1872/73, 46 citizens with the right to brew beer became a “municipal brewing association for Apolda, Karl Kürschner & Co.”. In 1884 the company was entered in the commercial register and transformed into a brewing cooperative (Karl Kürschner & Co.). At the same time, a second brewery company with the name “Gebr. Bohring ".

On October 1, 1887, the union of the breweries “Karl Kürschner & Co.” with the brewing company “Gebr. Bohring ”to“ Vereinsbrauerei Apolda AG ”laid the foundation for today's private brewery. The founding act took place on August 8, 1888. In 1952, during the GDR era , the brewery was renamed VEB Vereinsbrauerei Apolda and in 1969 incorporated into the "VEB Beverage Combine Erfurt". After reunification , the brewery was privatized on May 31, 1991 and has been in private hands again since then.
