William Meinhardt

William Meinhardt, 1931

Wilhelm or William Meinhardt (born August 29, 1872 in Schwedt / Oder ; † May 31, 1955 in London ) was a German lawyer and industrialist.

His parents were Simon Meinhardt (1839–1901) and Ida Goldstein (1850–1904) from Jacobshagen .

From 1899 he was an assessor, then a lawyer and notary, a. a. for patent law, in Berlin. The TH Aachen awarded him a Dr. hc

From 1914 he was CEO of Auer Gesellschaft Deutsche Gasglühlicht AG (DGA). Under him, the DGA initiated the Osram merger. In 1919 he became chairman of the board of directors of the new Osram GmbH . His task was not only to unite the German light bulb industry, but also to bring together companies of the same value and of the same kind for international cooperation. After years of preparatory negotiations, the “General Patent and Development Agreement” was concluded in 1924. A company under Swiss law, " Phoebus SA ", was founded, and Meinhardt became the Chairman of the Board of Directors.

He also became a member of the main committee of the Reich Association of German Industry .

In 1933 he emigrated to London, where he was a member of the Association of Jewish Refugee in Great Britain .
