William Napier, 13th Lord Napier

William Francis Cyril James Hamilton Napier, 13th Lord Napier, 4th Baron Ettrick DL ( September 9, 1900 - August 23, 1954 ) was a Scottish nobleman, politician and military man.

Life

He was the son of Francis Napier, 12th Lord Napier, 3rd Baron Ettrick (1876-1941) and his wife Clarice Jessie Evelyn Hamilton (1881-1951), the daughter of James Hamilton, 9th Lord Belhaven and Stenton.

He attended Wellington College and then embarked on a military career. He visited Sandhurst and fought in World War II . In 1943 he reached the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel with the King's Own Scottish Borderers .

When his father died on March 22, 1941, he inherited his title of nobility as 13th Lord Napier , 4th Baron Ettrick, and 10th Baronet Scott, of Thirlestane. He also became head Clan Chief of Clan Napier and received the seat in the House of Lords associated with the baron title .

He was Justice of the Peace and Deputy Lieutenant . He was awarded the Territorial Decoration Medal and inducted into the Royal Company of Archers . From 1946 to 1948 he was a member of Selkirk County Council.

Marriage and offspring

In 1928 he married Violet Muir Newson, daughter of Sir Percy Wilson Newson, 1st Baronet. He had four children with her:
