William Richardson (singer)

William Howard Richardson (born August 23, 1869 in Liverpool / Nova Scotia , † probably after 1930) was an Afro-American singer (baritone).

Richardson came to Boston with his family when he was eight. There he took singing lessons from George H. Woods and made his first big appearance in the Steinert Hall in 1909 . As a traveling singer, he then appeared in various cities in concerts and oratorios - including in Samuel Coleridge-Taylor's Hiawatha trilogy. In 1913 he went on a concert tour with Maud Cuney-Hare .

On his return to Boston he took further singing lessons from Arthur Hubbard , the teacher of Roland Hayes and Theodore Schroeder . In 1915 he toured the United States with Hayes and the pianist William Lawrence . In 1919 he gave a concert at the Jordan Hall in Boston . After a transcontinental tour of the USA, he performed in 1923 in Cuba, the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
