William Schreyer

William Allen Schreyer (born January 13, 1928 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania , † January 22, 2011 ) was an American entrepreneur , CEO of Merrill Lynch & Co and President of the Pennsylvania State University Board of Trustees .

Schreyer's father worked in a local stock trading office which Merrill Lynch later bought. William Schreyer worked part-time in this company while he was in high school . He then went to Pennsylvania State University, where he graduated in 1948. After college, he started as a junior executive trainee at Merrill Lynch. In 1963 he became head of the Trenton, New Jersey office and in 1972 New York regional director. The following year he became the head of the security department. Eventually he became president of the company in 1982 and then chairman and CEO in 1985.

From the 1990s onwards, Schreyer donated several million US dollars of his personal wealth to the Pennsylvania State University and the Sigma Phi Epsilon organization .
