William Waldorf Astor, 3rd Viscount Astor (born August 13, 1907 in Cliveden , Taplow , Buckinghamshire , † March 7, 1966 in Nassau , Bahamas ) was a British peer , businessman and politician of the Conservative Party .

life and career

Astor was born on August 13, 1907 to Waldorf Astor, 2nd Viscount Astor , and Nancy Astor . He attended Eton College and then studied at New College at the University of Oxford . Astor served in the Navy, where he achieved the rank of Lieutenant Commander.

From 1935 to 1945 Astor was a Member of the House of Commons for the constituency of Fulham East . For Wycombe he was re-elected to the House of Commons in 1951 and held this seat until promotion to the House of Lords. From 1936 to 1937 he served as Parliamentary Private Secretary to the First Lord of the Admiralty .

On September 30, 1952, he inherited the title of Viscount Astor from his father. He also held the office of High Steward of Maidenhead .

In his first marriage, Astor was married to Sarah Norton from June 14, 1945 until their divorce in 1953. They had one child, William Astor, 4th Viscount Astor . On April 26, 1955, he married Phillipa Victoria Hunloke. They had a daughter, Emily Mary (* 1956). The marriage was divorced on June 3, 1960. Viscount Astor was married to Janet Bronwen Alun Pugh in third marriage on October 14, 1960. They had two daughters together, Janet (* 1961) and Pauline (* 1964).

Astor died on March 8, 1966 at the age of 58 in Nassau, Bahamas.
