William of Wirén

William of Wirén (born August 30 . Jul / 11 September 1894 greg. In Kärdla , Hiiumaa , †  23. November 1956 in Stockholm , Sweden ) was an Estonian sailors .

At the Olympic Summer Games in Amsterdam in 1928 , von Wirén was a member of the team of the Estonian boat Tutti V at the age of 33, which won the bronze medal in the 6-meter class after Norway and Denmark . His colleagues were Nikolai Vekšin , Eberhard Vogdt and the two brothers Andreas and Georg Faehlmann .

Von Wirén remained a successful athlete until the beginning of World War II . In 1933 and 1934 he won the gold medal at the European Championships in ice sailing in the 20-meter class. In 1936 he won the bronze medal in the Monotype XV class. In 1939 von Wirén emigrated to Germany, from 1950 he lived in Sweden.
