The Williams Reef ( Norwegian Williamsrevet ) is a rocky reef near the southeastern coast of Bouvet Island in the South Atlantic . From Cape Fie it extends over a length of around 600 m.
The first mapping was made in 1898 by participants in the Valdivia expedition (1898–1899) under the direction of the German zoologist Carl Chun . Another mapping was carried out in December 1927 during the Norvegia research voyage under Captain Harald Horntvedt (1879-1946). Hornvedt named the reef after the American sealer captain John L. Williams, who landed on Bouvet Island with his schooner Golden West in 1878 .
