Williams Island is a 1.5 km long and icy island in the Bellingshausen Sea . It is halfway between Cape Petersen and Dyer Point 3 km north of the north coast of the West Antarctic Thurston Island .
Your position was determined from aerial photographs taken by the United States Navy VX-6 squadron in January 1960. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1960 after the aircraft mechanic Frederick Warren Williams (1920–1946) who, along with two other crew members, died on December 30, 1946 when a Martin PBM Mariner crashed on the Noville Peninsula as part of Operation Highjump (1946–1946). 1947) was killed.
