Willy Enders

Willy Enders (born April 11, 1886 in Sonneberg ; † January 7, 1938 in Eisenach ) was a German social democrat and resistance fighter against National Socialism .

Life

Enders was born in Sonneberg on April 11, 1886 and settled in Eisenach in 1908. Since 1905 he was a member of the SPD . Since the 1920s he has been working as a librarian at the Eisenach trade union library . He became involved in the resistance against National Socialism at an early stage and became a member of the International Socialist League , which is why he was arrested on January 5, 1938. Two days later, on January 7, 1938, he committed suicide in the Eisenach court prison.

Honors

In Eisenach, a street was named after Enders during the GDR , and it still bears this name today. On March 18, 2014, a stumbling block was laid in front of his former home on Stedtfelder Strasse in Eisenach to commemorate him .
