Willy Raatz (born January 11, 1910 in Alt Banzin near Köslin , † January 11, 2010 in Husum ) was a German visual artist.

Life

Willy Raatz was born in Pomerania . During his youth, his talent was shown through carvings, clay figures and drawings, followed by an apprenticeship as a painter. After the end of the Second World War, the Raatz family settled in Husum, where Willy Raatz worked as an advertising painter, graphic artist and artist. In addition to his works with pictures and drawings of landscapes, people and animals, book illustrations and sculptural works made of wood and clay, his wall and facade paintings in particular have shaped the townscape of Husum . One of his most famous wood carvings is the warrior plaque from the Traventhal office.

Willy Raatz has lived in Flensburg since his workshop was closed in 2000, but returned to Husum at the end of 2009. On the occasion of his 100th birthday, an exhibition of his works took place there. He passed away the same day.
