Wim Boost

Willem "Wim" Louis Joseph Boost (born July 2, 1918 in Breda ; † August 1, 2005 in Breukelen ; known as WiBo ) was a Dutch draftsman who was best known for his decades of work for the daily de Volkskrant .

Life

Boost began as a drawing teacher and then worked for the Toonder studios of the draftsman Marten Toonder . He then worked for the magazine Mandril - Maandblad voor Mensen , a kind of Dutch New Yorker that appeared only from 1948 to 1953, the Jeugdkampioen of the ANWB and Het Lichtspoor , the official weekly publication of the Dutch armed forces. From 1951 on, Boost worked for the newspaper de Volkskrant and created the daily cartoon for the front page, which eventually made him one of the most prominent cartoonists in the Netherlands. After exactly 8,888 cartoons, he said goodbye to the newspaper in June 1983. In addition, he worked temporarily for the Haagse Post and the KRO Studio , the program guide of Katholieke Radio Omroep (Katholischer Rundfunk, KRO for short).

Boost's older brother Charles (1907–1990) was also a renowned draftsman.
