history

The company was founded in 1925 under the name Wincanton Transport & Engineering Ltd (WT&E), at that time a subsidiary of the West Surrey Central Dairy Company Ltd and was primarily active in the maintenance and equipment of milk processing machines and systems. In the 1970s, WT&E was split into the machine division and the transport division Wincanton Transport Ltd (WTL), which mainly dealt with the loading and transport of petroleum products and milk. After further restructuring and acquisitions, including in particular the Glass Glover Group in 1993 and P&O Trans European in December 2000 , the company was listed on the London Stock Exchange in May 2001 . Numerous other takeovers from competitors followed. Wincanton has been listed in the FTSE 250 index since 2006 .

Some areas of Wincanton have since been sold to different buyers.
