The Winchester 1200 Defender is a forearm repeater made by the American gun manufacturer Winchester .

The Winchester 1200 Defender is a repeating shotgun , the shooter has to reload a new cartridge from the tubular magazine under the barrel after each shot by pulling back the movable fore-end . The empty cartridge case is ejected to the right. The weapon can be loaded with different types of ammunition (e.g. shot of different grain sizes, shotgun barrels, etc., as well as different ammunition for fighting unrest). Mixed magazine fillings are also possible; an unwanted cartridge is then ejected by repeating empty.
history
In 1964 the 1200 Defender was introduced as a so-called "defensive shotgun".
The weapon was built until 1978, when it was replaced by the successor model 1300 Defender.
Areas of use
The high magazine capacity of 7 rounds of the 12/76 Magnum cartridges or 8 rounds of the 12/70 cartridges also made the Winchester 1200 Defender interesting as a government model, especially since, similar to the Mossberg 500 , it is somewhat more cost-effective and somewhat lighter due to the less massive design of the bolt was than the competitor's Remington 870 . The 1200 Defender was used by many sheriff departments and some SWAT teams in the USA. Furnishing
The basic equipment of the 1200 Defender has a beech wood stock (shoulder rest and fore-end) with a ventilated rubber butt plate to reduce the not inconsiderable recoil .
Accessories were a longer barrel (24 ") with a running rail (for mounting a hunting sight), which made the model interesting for hunters, and various magazine end caps for mounting straps or mounting lamps or laser aiming devices Pistol grips, fore-ends or entire stock combinations were also available for different areas of application, and even bridge mounts with Weaver profiles for mounting optical or optoelectronic aiming devices were available.
