Lists on the subject |
The Remington 870 is a forearm repeater shotgun made by the US gun manufacturer Remington Arms . It is a widespread weapon used, especially in the USA, for sport shooting, hunting and self-defense.
history
The Remington 870 represents the fourth main design in the development series of the Remington forend repeater shotguns. The original model called Wingmaster was developed in 1949 as a replacement for the Remington Model 31. The Remington 31 was quite popular, but sold significantly less than the Winchester Model 1912. Remington wanted to change this by introducing a modern, streamlined, robust, reliable and relatively inexpensive forearm repeater. The Remington 870 is an adaptation of the Remington Model 11-48, which in turn is an adaptation of the Remington 11 made by John Browning .
In 1966 it was introduced to the United States Marine Corps as a replacement for the obsolete shotguns from World War II . Although used in large numbers by both the Marines and the U.S. Air Force as a basic defense weapon, most models were sold to marksmen and hunters. But the police and the FBI also use the Remington on a large scale. The sales of the Remington 870 are stable. By 1973 the weapon had already been sold 2 million times, and the 7 millionth example was made in 1996. On April 13, 2009, the 10 millionth exemplar was produced, making the 870 the best-selling forend repeater shotgun in history.
design
The Remington Model 870 is a repeating shotgun , the shooter has to feed a new cartridge from the barrel magazine under the barrel to the chamber by pulling the movable fore-end back and forth after each shot . The empty case is ejected to the right. The weapon can be loaded with various types of ammunition (shotgun bullets, shot, tear gas, and much more), mixed magazine fillings are also possible, an unwanted cartridge is then ejected by repeating empty.
variants
There are countless variants of the weapon, which is particularly popular with sport shooters. While only 15 variants were originally produced, Remington now makes dozens of models for civilians, the executive and the military. This is due, among other things, to the fact that it can be easily dismantled and the enormous number of accessories. The most common variants are:
- Wingmaster : polished or matt walnut stock , polished barrel. Offered in clay pigeon, trap or field configuration
- Express : plastic or wooden stock, burnished barrel
- Marine : plastic stock, nickel-plated barrel (corrosion protection)
- Police : folding stock made of plastic or metal, fixed stock made of plastic or wood,
- Masterkey : Shotgun attachment for the M4 , without stock and grip, shortened barrel, phosphated barrel
Chinese version
The Chinese arms manufacturer Norinco is producing unlicensed copies of the Remington 870 as it no longer enjoys patent protection. The most common variants are the Norinco HP9-1 and M-98. The difference lies in the barrel length: the HP9-1 with a 12.5 "or 14" barrel length and the M-98 with an 18.5 "barrel length. In the USA, which bans the import of many Norinco products, the bolt-action rifle was named "Norinco Hawk 982" and "Interstate Hawk 982" introduced and sold.
