USBP forces on patrol

The United States Border Patrol ( USBP ) is a uniformed and armed police association of the United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) , which in turn belongs to the Department of Homeland Security . The agency is based in the Ronald Reagan Building in the Federal Triangle , Washington, DC

history

The USBP was created on May 28, 1924 as an agency of the United States Department of Labor . Prior to 2003, Border Patrol was part of the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS), which was part of the United States Department of Justice .

tasks

The agency currently consists of over 20,000 staff who patrol a 19,000 mile boundary by land and water. The main objective is to prevent illegal immigration into United States territory, especially on the border between the United States and Mexico . When the question of immigration was looked at by politics from a counter-terrorism point of view, the manpower of the US Border Patrol more than doubled in a short period of time after 2006 and in the meantime, as part of Operation Jump Start, 6,000 men of the United States National Guard were at the Border used.

United States Border Patrol immunity

With the rapid expansion of the United States Border Patrol, neither crews nor senior officials were carefully selected and trained. In the years 2007 to 2012, despite conflicting operational guidelines, officials fired at least ten times across the border into Mexico, fatally killing Mexican citizens in six cases. The United States Border Patrol is not subject to any public judicial review , so no officer has been brought to justice in any of the cases.
