Wind is a US spacecraft launched in 1994.
mission
The Wind probe, which weighs 1,250 kg, was launched by the USA together with ESA , Russia , the Czech Republic and Japan as part of the “International Solar Terrestrial Physics” (ISTP) project. The SOHO probe and some satellites also belong to this project . The aim of the Wind probe was to research the incoming solar wind when it came into contact with the shock front of the earth .
course
- The probe was launched on November 1, 1994 on a Delta II launcher.
- Wind initially remained in orbit around the earth with an apogee of 1.5 million km.
- In November 1996 the probe reached an orbit around the Lagrange point L 1.
- In March 1998, Wind left this position and entered an orbit around the earth known as the petal orbit near the limit of the earth's gravity field, thus becoming an earth satellite.
- The probe is still active.
- On June 3, 2013, the probe measured the GRB 130603B gamma-ray flash with its Transient Gamma-Ray Spectrometer .
