Windsor Meadows State Park is a state park in the US state of Connecticut in the area of the community of Windsor on the west bank of the Connecticut River . The state park consists of three parcels with 48, 19 and 88 acres (19; 7.7 and 35.6 hectares; north-south). They run between railroad tracks and the river.

history

The unchanged riparian forest and flood meadows convey the image of a landscape that Adriaen Block and his team saw when they explored the river in 1619. The State of Connecticut acquired the land in 1968 and entered it as a 128-acre reserve on the State Register and Manual in 1969 . Plans to develop a park with river hiking opportunities were supported by the establishment of the Windsor River Trail (1 mi) in 2012 .

free time activities

The Windsor River Trail is a handicapped accessible path with romantic views of the river, which starts parallel to the river to the south at the Captain John Bissell Memorial Bridge and then turns inland. It crosses Decker's Brook over an iron bridge and ends on Meadow Road . Also in the park is the west end of the 1.8 mi (2.9 km) long Bissell Bridge Walkway Trail , which crosses the river at Bissell Bridge ( I-291 ). For boating, the river can be accessed from a ramp at the base of the bridge.
