Winfried Gottschalk

Winfried Gottschalk (born May 19, 1944 in Cologne ) is a former German racing cyclist .

Athletic career

Gottschalk, who began cycling in 1960 , won the traditional Cologne – Schuld – Frechen race in 1965 and 1966. In addition to the road races , he also frequently competed in cross-country races . In this discipline of cycling he was able to become vice-champion at the German championships in 1965 ( amateurs ), as well as in 1967 and 1968 ( professional riders ). In 1968 he was at the UCI World Championships in cyclo-cross racing 14th among the professional drivers. In early 1967 he became a professional in the German team Ruberg , which was led by Wolfgang Gronen . A year later he started with the German national team in the Tour de France , but retired on the 3rd stage because the parental leave period was exceeded .
