Winfried Hecht

Winfried Hecht (born February 2, 1941 in Stuttgart ) is a German historian.

Hecht lived with his family in Rottweil since 1944 . Here he attended the Catholic elementary school from 1947 to 1951 and the Albertus-Magnus-Gymnasium from 1951 to 1960. Here he passed his Abitur. 1960–1967 he studied history, Romance studies and politics in Tübingen, Poitiers, Coimbra (Portugal) and Würzburg. In 1967 he received his doctorate from the University of Würzburg with a study on Byzantine foreign policy at the time of the last Komnene emperors 1180-1185 . From 1968 to 2006 he was the city archivist and museum director in Rottweil. In 1971 he joined the SPD and was elected to the district council. 1973–2003 he was chairman of the Rottweiler History and Antiquity Association, then honorary chairman. In 1980 he received the Peter-Haag-Preis of the Swabian Heimatbund for the restoration of the house at Lorenzgasse 7 in Rottweil. In 2003 he was awarded the home medal of the state of Baden-Württemberg. On February 25, 2006, Dr. Hecht officially retired and received the citizen's medal in gold. In 2006 he received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon. In 2014 he was made a knight of the New Year's Eve . He published numerous publications on regional history.
