Winfried Padberg

Winfried Padberg (born July 11, 1954 in Winterberg ) is a German surgeon.

Career

In 1973 Padberg obtained his Abitur and studied human medicine at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn . He passed the American ECFMG exam (Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates) in 1979, obtained his medical license in 1980 and received his doctorate in the same year.

From 1980 to 1981 he then spent a year as a resident at the University of Chicago's Ravenswood Hospital Medical Center and obtained the FLEX exam (Federal Licensing Examination) in Chicago . From 1981 to 1984 Padberg completed his surgical specialist training at the Center for Surgery, Anaesthesiology and Urology, Department of General and Thoracic Surgery at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen, including rotation cycles in various departments. In 1982 he passed the American VQE (Visa Qualifying Examination).

After various activities as a fellow and research assistant in Boston and Giessen, Padberg was appointed senior physician at the clinic for general and thoracic surgery in 1989; In the same year he received recognition of his specialist training as a "doctor for surgery". Various other positions and activities as a senior physician, private lecturer and, in 1996, finally an unscheduled professorship followed .

From 2000 to 2003 Padberg was managing director of the surgical clinic and chief physician of the department for general, visceral, thoracic and pediatric surgery at the Steinenberg Clinic , Reutlingen , Academic Teaching Hospital of the University of Tübingen . Since 2003 he has been full professor for general surgery and director of the department for general, visceral, thoracic, transplant and pediatric surgery at the University Hospital Giessen . and since 2007 Managing Director of the Center for Surgery, Anaesthesiology and Urology at the Justus Liebig University. At the end of 2010, a team led by Padberg carried out the 25th lung transplant at Giessen University Hospital.

  • 1991 Walter Brendel Prize of the European Society for Surgical Research (ESSR) in Salzburg for the work: "Immunosuppression by donor-specific bone marrow transplantation and low dose cyclosporine A in narciac allotransplantation in rats"
  • 1991 Schunk Prize for Human Medicine from the Faculty of Human Medicine at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen for work in the field of "Immunological Enhancement" and for "New Ways of Immunosuppression after Transplantation".
