Winnemar Gruters from Wachtendonk

Winnemar Gruters von Wachtendonk († August 16, 1466 in Cologne ) was a priest , official and vicar general of the Archdiocese of Cologne .

After completing a law degree, Gruters became pastor in Wachtendonk , from which he got his nickname, and professor of law at the University of Cologne . Since 1433 Vicar General of the Archbishop of Cologne, he became Rector of the University in 1435/36 and stayed as such at the Council of Basel . At the same time he was appointed canon in the Cologne cathedral chapter in 1435 , Gruters von Wachtendonk became archbishop chancellor and in 1453 official. From 1456 to 1460 he again served as vicar general.

After his death, Gruters, who was also a canon and dean of St. Aposteln (Cologne), was buried in the cloister there.
